It’s a bit of a ride, but of course, Charlotte solves it. The two of them get wrapped up in a case in the theater department that involves a student who went missing the previous summer, her boyfriend, and her weird group of theater friends (one of which is Jamie’s roommate). Jamie is living in a dorm on campus with a roommate who is part of this crazy theater program. Charlotte is living with her Uncle Leander off campus – he’s been a side character in all of the books, so I enjoyed seeing him again. In A Question of Holmes, Jamie and Charlotte are doing a pre-college summer program at Oxford, and they’re trying to do the impossible for the first time in the series – be a couple. Spoilers for the first three books, possibly, as a warning. *Note! This is one of those books that I generally don’t review on this blog – a book that was published this year but wasn’t an ARC! So it doesn’t qualify for Beat the Backlist, but it’s the banner I’m using for the sake of blog aesthetic. But we got what I’ve been considering a bonus book, and it felt like I was getting wrapped in a warm hug the entire time. As you know from previous reviews, I have a lot of love for this series, and as I understand it, the series was supposed to end with The Case for Jamie. Here we are, finally! At the end of the Charlotte Holmes series. When Julie disappears ten years to the day after Felix went on the lam, everyone assumes she's left to join her old lover-until her remains are discovered in a secluded park. Though Bambi has no idea where her husband-or his money-might be, she suspects one woman does: his devoted young mistress, Julie. But on the Fourth of July in 1976, Bambi's comfortable world implodes when Felix, facing prison, vanishes. Thanks to his lucrative-if not all legal-businesses, she and their three little girls live in luxury. When Felix Brewer meets nineteen-year-old Bernadette "Bambi" Gottschalk at a Valentine's Day dance in 1959, he charms her with wild promises, some of which he actually keeps. The acclaimed New York Times bestselling author of The Most Dangerous Thing, I'd Know You Anywhere, and What the Dead Know returns with an addictive story that explores how one man's disappearance echoes through the lives of the five women he left behind-his wife, his daughters, and his mistress Dead is dead. The acclaimed New York Times bestselling author of The Most Dangerous Thing, I'd Know You Anywhere, and What the Dead Know returns with an addictive story that explores how one man's disappearance echoes through the lives of the five women he left be. However, this book didn’t quite hit the right notes for me. Having been a bit let down by her most recent series, I was looking forward to something more in line with her debut, which I loved. GILDED is Marissa Meyer’s return to fairy tales after her debut series the Lunar Chronicles. But love wasn’t meant to be part of the bargain. In despair, Serilda unwittingly summons a mysterious young man to her aid. The king locks Serilda in a castle dungeon and orders her to spin straw into gold, or be killed for lying. When one of Serilda’s stories draws the attention of the devastating Erlking, she finds herself swept away into a world of enchantment, where ghouls prowl the earth, and ravens track her every move. Ĭursed by the god of lies, a miller’s daughter has developed a talent for storytelling – but are all of her tales as false as they appear? All magic comes at a price, but love was never part of the bargain. Wish to know what happens next with everything. And I'm also mad that the ending left that part open too. But she is also stupid at times, and feels very bad about herself. She is strong, but also broken, and she is kind and loyal. Well, mostly ) Scarlet is an amazing character. I really liked the characters in this book. There is a lot of things happening in this book, lots of good thing, but more bad things. Which was hard to read, but it was also awesome that it had that. And there is a lot of torture and death in this book. This book has a lot more happening, but also a lot less. Liked even more that it was not the same as that movie. Very similar to the Disney Robin Hood movie, and I liked that. And I will forever hate them, although many won't have that issue. Because, yeah, there were many things I hated. But because of something I can not stand at all, I'm only giving it a four star. The plot in this book is worthy of a five star. (Never noticed that name in the Disney movie.) But, it makes sense, and I really really loved it. Except for the Disney one, which I love :) So I didn't know until I finished reading the book that Will Scarlet was an actual "real" person, sort of. I must admit I have not read any Robin Hood books or watched any movies. This book is completely adorable, and anyone who loves cosy, warm fantasy should absolutely have this on their radar.
